Full Day Camp FUN

Posted in Full Day Camps

We love our regular programming. Having the chance to work with the same group of kids, often for years of their lives, can be very gratifying. But every now and then it’s great just to mix it up!
And our Full Day Camp programs do just that.
When the City Schools of Decatur go on break we open the studio and fire up the creativity to offer theme-based camps to the entire Decatur Community. It’s a great chance for us to meet new families and for our teacher-artists to explore new creative ideas.
This last camp was no exception. We enrolled a fun bunch of kids and everyone was excited about the theme: “Learning Luminescence”. Our projects involved all things “light” and what perfect timing! The weather was cold, grey and miserable but we stayed warm and cozy exploring all the ways we can work with this exciting material.

We explored phosphorescence, solar power, constellations, lantern-making, light painting photography and more! The more we created the more we wanted to learn. Light is such a dynamic and magical medium.

Here are some wonderful examples from our “Light Painting Photography”:

Our little artists also spent time learning about how light passes through opaque, translucent and transparent objects:

We can’t wait for our next Full Day Camp program this Spring. Be on the lookout for when registration opens and until then, remember to celebrate light as the days grow longer on our march toward warmer weather in the South!
