Third Thursdays @ Color Wheel 508

Posted in Color Wheel Studio Blog

We’ve started something new at the Color Wheel 508 Studio we are calling “Third Thursdays” and after our inaugural meeting last month we’re really excited!

Third Thursdays are a chance for us to connect with all of the talented High School artists in the community and offer them some creative fun. We began Third Thursdays this February with a DRAW IN and Portfolio Review. It was a chance for us to hang out and do some free-form drawing as well as to check out the work some of these talented artists have put together.

The paper that we decided to draw on was HUGE – 9 feet by 9 feet to be exact. So we put a piece on the table, then on the wall… and we were having so much fun that we put some on the floor, too.

The result was some pretty out of this world drawing.
We drew small on the tables, pulled out some Matisse-style sticks for drawing big on the walls, and finally used our entire bodies when we graduated to the floor drawings.

The paper on the floor begged for some full-body drawing. What a workout!

We were joined by Nell Ruby, Associate Professor of Art at Agnes Scott College and Paul Rodecker, Drawing Professor at SCAD. They were instrumental in helping to establish the positive and creative energy of Draw In as well as in reviewing work brought by some of our artists. Our Ceramics Instructor, Shannon was on-site to take digital photographs of any of the art work the kids brought in to submit as a part of their college applications.

We were so thrilled to have such great energy in the studio and are looking forward to the next Third Thursday! It will be Thursday, March 19th
