Coronavirus (Covid-19) UPDATES

UPDATE: May 11th 2020

Color Wheel is vigilantly monitoring the situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19) and reopening for in-studio operations when government and public health officials advise. Our primary goal is the safety of our families. According to the White House and CDC guidelines, Opening Up America Again, camps are included in “Phase 2” of reopening, following appropriate levels of health data and state preparedness.

Color Wheel will reopen in-studio camps when local authorities indicate Dekalb/Decatur is in Phase 2 of Covid-19 mitigation.

The Guidance we are following:

CDC Proposed Guidelines/ Guidance for Implementing the Opening Up America Again Framework
(regarding childcare programs and day camps)

The reopening of child-care programs is crucial to helping parents and guardians return to work. In communities that are deemed significant mitigation areas by State and local authorities, child-care programs should be closed. Establish and continue communication with local and State authorities to determine current mitigation levels in your community.

  • Phase 1: Restrict to children of essential workers in areas needing significant mitigation.
  • Phase 2: Expand to all children with enhanced social distancing measures.
  • Phase 3: Remain open for all children with social distancing measures.

White House Guidelines: Opening Up America Again

  • Phase 1: Schools and organized youth activities (e.g. daycare, camp) that are currently closed should remain closed.
  • Phase 2:  For states and regions with no evidence of a rebound that satisfy the gating criteria for the second time, schools and organized youth activities (e.g. daycare, camp) can reopen.

City of Decatur (regarding the cancellation of the City’s recreation center Summer Programming)

“This decision was made primarily due to the current public health environment in our state and in DeKalb County.  We reviewed guidance for child-care programs, schools and camps from the CDC regarding safe conditions for programs to operate.  The most important factor is that our community needs to be in Phase 2 of the COVID-19 pandemic wherein we are seeing a reduction in cases over the previous 14 days, availability of testing is widespread, and contact tracing is robust and accessible in the area.”

Color Wheel Summer Camp
Color Wheel will reopen in-studio camps when local authorities indicate that Dekalb/Decatur is in Phase 2 of Covid-19 mitigation. Until that time, Color Wheel will run a unique, live on-line art experience for young artists.

How It Works
We will determine whether camp operates on-line or in-studio three weeks prior to each camp. Families enrolled will be contacted by e-mail, and all changes and requests will be processed at that time (three weeks in advance of the individual camp for which you are registered).   Example: Families registered for June 1st camp will be contacted Monday, May 11th.

When you are contacted by e-mail you will be given the following options:

…while Decatur is not yet in Phase 2 according to local authorities
Options

  • Register for a reduced rate partial day on-line camp experience (supplies provided)
  • Request a CW credit
  • Request a refund

…when Decatur enters Phase 2 according to local authorities and our in-studio camps re-open:
Options

  • Attend Camp! Hooray!
  • Request a CW credit
  • Request a refund

Note: Once Color Wheel reopens for in-studio camps, all enrolled families will receive detailed information on enhanced social distancing measures, cleaning and safety procedures that will be implemented.

Processing Requests

Due to the volume of camp spaces in our nine-week summer program, we are unable to process individual requests outside this system. Your change requests, camp credits and refunds will be allowed, processed, and issued per camp as decisions on each camp are announced (three weeks in advance of each camp).

We continue our creative work this Summer creating unique art experiences for the Decatur community and working to support Decatur’s families. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have

Sincerely,
Cathy
