“Learning” in Morning Art School is always disguised as “Fun”.
For example, our curriculum is theme-based because it allows for more in-depth learning. But really, it’s also because the kids get so enthusiastic when they examine something closely. They build confidence when, after spending a week on a “Modes of Transportation” theme, they suddenly recognize a street sign. It’s exciting when they get to share the connections they’ve made. And being smart is fun!
These past few weeks at Morning Art School we explored a bit about “Ponds” and “Forest Life”
Our teacher Lauren created a wonderful bulletin board showcasing some of our work.
Check out this fantastic snake drawing.
Our little artists made their own “Pond Snacks”. They mixed cream cheese and blue food coloring to create ‘water’. Then they spread it over a cracker and added their own Goldfish. Yum!
Cardboard Boxes are one of our all-time favorite creative play tools. For our “Forest Life” theme a cardboard box created an excellent tree for some little Morning Art School “Raccoons”.
We are over halfway through the year but have so much more fun learning in Morning Art School. There are many more themes to explore. We love when the kids drive our learning through their own natural curiosity. Last week our lunch discussion turned to what makes the sky grey (it was a very cloudy week). Next stop: “Weather”!
