Interns Make it Happen!

Posted in Color Wheel Studio Blog

We are so lucky here at Color Wheel. Some of the BEST people, children AND adults, have passed through this studio. But it is the interns that make us feel REALLY special because they just want to hang out here. And who wouldn’t?

They come to us for a variety of reasons. There are the high school students who want to gain a little experience and have something meaningful to do with their time. There are the college students home for the Summer who are looking to have some fun with creative kids. And sometimes there are even former Color Wheel artists. Kids who have spent much of their childhood with us, who are now young adults and are excited to give back a bit of their own experience to the next generation. Whatever the reason, we rely on them as much as they rely on us. And we are always so grateful for their time, their efforts and their enthusiasm!

Recently, we had a “Full Circle” moment when one of our ORIGINAL Color Wheel artists (remember waaaaay back in 2002?) wanted to intern with us. Leela Goshorn was hoping to further her education (she’s a student at Kansas City Art Institute) and spend time in a place she loved. Back when she was a Summer Camper Leela starred in a black and white Film Noir in our “Funky Film Making” camp. She was very Lauren Bacall in a trench coat and hat! She came back and assisted in the After School program in every way imaginable. Leela helped prepare art projects, acted as teaching assistant and even taught a project to a group of little artists.

Currently, we have a new Intern in the studio who has proved to be a fantastic fit in a short amount of time. Irene Ruby, daughter of Agnes Scott College’s Associate Professor of Art, Nell Ruby is a student and Decatur High School. She is no stranger to art and creativity but is taking her first high school art class this semester. Irene assists in our social media, art project preparation, homework assistance and boosts the general fun in the studio! We’re so looking forward to spending more time with this talented young woman

All in all the studio seems to attract the most wonderful folks- kids, parents, artists and interns alike. We’re looking forward to meeting the Color Wheel Crew of the future!
