After School Studio
The Color Wheel mission is to encourage the growth and development of creative,free-thinking individuals. To this end, we provide safe, quality art-based classes aimed at nurturing the whole child. At Color Wheel Studio we believe that through the arts children can explore individuality and develop high self-esteem. Working individually and in collaboration with other children, each child learns to express and expand their vision of the world.
The Color Wheel Studio after school art classes follows the City Schools of Decatur School year calendar and operates weekly Monday-Friday 2:30-6:00pm during the months of August – May. Enrollment is required to attend after school art classes during the school year.
Our afternoon classes are currently full. To be placed on the waitlist, please email us at info@colorwheelstudio.com.
Focused on art exploration, each of our instructors is a degreed artist and experienced in teaching children both Studio Art and Art History. Each staff member brings to Color Wheel a love for working with children as well as the opportunity to share their unique artistic talents with students and families.
At Color Wheel, your child becomes a part of a young artists’ community. We work and play together, helping each other grow into strong, socially conscious, free-thinking individuals. Our artists work in five areas: drawing & painting, ceramics, textiles, printmaking and mixed media. Students spend time in each area throughout the school year for a balanced creative experience.

Curriculum
Our afternoon studio curriculum is based on the Color Wheel method which is a thematic, process oriented, multi-disciplinary approach. Our degreed instructorscreate curriculum for their specific area of expertise. Color Wheel artists are placed in groups of roughly 10 – 15 students with other artists of the same age. By rotating the groups, each artist works in all five areas throughout the year: ceramics, printmaking, drawing & painting, mixed media. We strive to create a safe space in which young artists feel comfortable and empowered. We offer a wide range of art experiences and projects as well as exposure to the artistic approaches of multiple art instructors to create an environment that encourages individual growth and development.
